Flying Celebration and Super Gold together on the synthetic track and Semper Magico on the plough were the star gallopers at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.
Flying Celebration, trained by the Fannin partnership, and Super Gold (Nicky Goss) were paired over a very smart 1000m in 1.1.1, with the final 800m taking 46.4, the last 600 in 34.6, which was excellent work.
Flying Celebration won a Foxton trial in late May before a resuming fourth at Otaki two weeks ago. She has trained on the right way, and goes back to Otaki this Saturday.
Super Gold won a trial on the synthetic track in April, but has not been able to pay a dividend in three raceday starts since. However, he deserves to be given the benefit of any doubt when he runs on Friday (r79 1700m).
Recent trial winners Sam's Turn and Our Akashinga, both trained by the Gray partnership, matched strides over 800m in 50.7, the last 600 in 37.1. Sam's Turn (by Turn Me Loose) debuts on Friday (r57 1200m).
Sweet Ada, inching closer to that maiden win, and stablemate Pippy were timed 1000m in 1.8.9, the last 600 in 39.4.
Pippy, now with the Fannin partnership, was formerly trained by Chris Gibbs at Ruakaka, where the Tivaci mare has won four races.
Jestin Case, in on Friday (r79 1700m), was sent 1000m in 1.9.1, the last 600 in 39.1, and she was in good form this time last year.
On the plough, Otaki entrant Semper Magico (r75 mile) sped over 1000m in 60.9, with his 800m and 600m sectionals coming up in 48.5 and 36.4 respectively. It follows on from his notable track gallop on Tuesday last week.
His stablemates Berry The Cash and Super Spirit lost no kudos with their 1000m together in 1.5.5, finishing with 800m in 51.4, the last 600 in 37.9.
Platinum Designs, chasing back-to-back wins on Friday (r69 1200m), had Jonathan Riddell aboard over 1000m in 1.6.9 and 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 37.7.
The Ugly Sister (by Tivaci), not seen since the spring, was timed 800m in 50.1, the last 600 in 37.5. She was formerly trained in the north (4 wins), but is now with Mark Oulaghan.
Opawa Scarlett worked right-handed over 1000m in 1.12.4, the last 600 in 38.4, while jumpers Super Flash and Kentucky Boy went together in 1.7.1 and 39.8.
Jack Morrison, in the r79 2140m on Friday, was not chasing the clock over 1000m in 1.12.1, the last 600 in 40.6. He won three in a row on the synthetic track in 2024 and has already repeated the dose this year.
Keepitinyourwallet (r56 1700m) covered 1000m in 1.13.2, the last 600 in 41.4, while Cry Baby (r79 2140m) and Craftsman went 800m together in 57.4 and 41.1.
Crouch and Call A Friend were kept to 800m in 59.3, the last 600 in 43.3, and Benefactor did three-quarter as well, finishing with 44.3.
