The Scunner ready to make amends.

The Scunner gave his Thorndon Mile chances a huge boost when he galloped at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.

Fast work was held a few metres out from the rail on the course proper in perfect conditions.

The Scunner, ridden by apprentice Jim Ching, was paired with promising maiden stablemate Derrick over a solid 1000m in 1.5 even, the last 600 in 34.3.

The Scunner blotted his copybook in the Rich Hill Mile at Ellerslie last start after a Group 3 win at Trentham (1400m) last month, while Derrick (by Derryn) finished second on debut at Otaki on Boxing Day and has not raced since.

Lower grade mare Poppy's Girl, ridden by Chris Dell, lost no kudos with her solo gallop over 1000m in 1.4.4, the last 600 in 34.6.

Impressive last-start maiden winner Dancing Shadow, from the Gray stable, covered 800m in 49.4, the last 600 in 34.7, and Shockiff ended with 34.8.

Keeping Time, another last-start winner, and Connello went together over 1000m in a very smart 1000m in 1.2.4, the last 600 in 35.2, while their stablemates He's A Doozy and Damiano recorded 1.3.9 and 35.3.

Thrilling and Rev It Up Rusty, two more recent winners from the Latta stable, ran 1000m in 1.4.8, the last 600 in 35.9, and Dazz went alone in 1.6.2 and 35.8.

Idyllic was sent 800m in 50.3, the last 600 in 35.4, and stablemate Albarossa, who had her excuses at Ellerslie last start, took 51.9 and 35.7. Kawakawa clocked a well-held 52.1 and 35.8.

Crouch and Donnybrook, who worked in good fashion last Thursday, were timed 1000m in 1.4.7, the last 600 in 36.2, while Thorndon Mile lightweight Omega Boy went on his own in 1.6.5 and 36 seconds even.

Unraced three-year-old geldings Platinum Warrior (by Contributer) and Buckfast Abbey (by Almanzor) ran 1000m in 1.5.8, the last 600 in 36.1. They are trained by Bryce Newman, and galloped nicely last Thursday as well.

Anderson Bridge, not seen since his impressive Trentham win last month, ran 1000m in 1.5.9, the last 600 in 36.1, and he returns to the same venue this Saturday.

Merroca and Jacobite Rising covered 1000m in 1.6.3, the last 600 in 36.7. Vee Vee followed them a few lengths behind initially, but finished on terms with the other two in 1.4.7 and 36.1.

Cheval de Foudre took 1.7.6 and 36.9.

Be Real and Knickerless were at a good clip from the 800m in 50.2, the last 600 in 36.4, as were their stablemates Hoorah Henry and Under Orders in 50.6 and 36.4. Silent Is Gold gathered speed from the 800m to clock 36.8 for the last 600.

Furiosa and My Alibi matched strides over 800m in 51.2, the last 600 in 37 seconds even, and Taupo Dancer went alone in 52.8 and 37.4.

Assist (by Contributer) and Chumbo (by Per Incanto), unraced three-year-olds in the Didham barn, ran 800m in 53.5, the last 600 in 37.9. Their stablemate She's A Weapon (by Armory) ended with 37.2, and War Princess recorded 38.1.

Pepeha gathered speed from the 1000m to finish with an easy 800m in 55.1, the last 600 in 39.6, while Timex, not seen on race day since August, and unraced four-year-old stablemate Madame Abeel (by Savabeel) did 600m in 42.3.
