Fast work was held wide out on the course proper or on the plough, but fog prevented the timing of some gallops.
Redana used the course proper and, with stable apprentice Amber Riddell aboard, ran 1000m in 1.4.4, with the final 800m taking 49.8, the last 600 in 35.6.
The Redwood mare has only one win (Wanganui) on the board, but has strung together 17 minor placings back to fifth. Her form is solid, and she deserves another win, which could come at Wanganui on Sunday (r65 f&m 1360m).
Her stablemate Connello, who races at Waverley (open 1400m) on Saturday, did similar work, covering 1000m in 1.4.8, the final 800m in 51.6 and last 600 in 35.1. The blinkers come off for Saturday’s race.
Southern Chilli, from the stable of Chrissy Bambry, gathered speed from the 1000m (1.14.1) to finish with 800m in 53.1, the last 600 in 36.4.
She is an acceptor for Saturday's weight-for-age Rotorua Stakes (f&m 1400m) but, much to Bambry’s disappointment, the horse is sixth on the ballot list.
Waverley runners Ocean Melody and Identikit were paired over 1000m in 1.8.2, the last 600 in 37.8, while Manuka Rush, in at Wanganui, went alone in 1.10.1 and 37.9.
The latter's stablemate Heza Monty, also heading to Wanganui, left 1000m behind in 1.7.2, the last 600 in 38.2, while Can Do (Waverley) and Victortheinflictor went together in 1.7.7 and 38.8. Can Do will have cheek burrs added to the gear.
Offertory (Waverley) had Danjuro for a partner over 1000m in 1.8.2, the last 600 in 38.6, and Street Appeal, a race rival for Offertory, went 800m on her own in 55.3 and 38.9.
Platinum Tyche (Waverley) and Keeping Time (Wanganui) matched strides over 1000m in 1.10.4, the last 600 in 39.2, and their stablemate Chelsea Rose (Waverley) went alone in 1.10.2 and 39.7.
Bradman, who did quiet work on Tuesday, was kept to 1000m in 1.13.8, the last 600 in 39.9, and his stablemate Our Giulia (Wanganui) clocked 1.19.2 and 39.7.
Belzoni and last-start winner Cremant were timed 800m in 55.8, the last 600 in 39.8, while Tokyodome and Mendacious posted 56 seconds even and 39.1.
The Scunner worked on his own over 800m in 56.2 and 39.3, with Baronies (Waverley) and Merrilegs (Wanganui) going together in 57.4 and 39.2.
Bee Precious, who will wear cheek burrs at Wanganui, ran 800m in 54.9, the last 600 in 40 seconds even.
Amiria (Wanganui) ended with 600m in 40.1; Bold Belle 40.3; Afterthought (Wanganui) 40.4; Subtle Image (Waverley) 40.7; Swordsman (Waverley) and Popinjay together in 41.1; Sloane Square 41.8; and Tamate Diva (Waverley) 42.3. The latter will not be wearing blinkers on Saturday.
On the plough, Wind Talker (Wanganui) was timed 800m in 53.6, the last 600 in 38.7, while Lucullan (Waverley), backing up from Tauherenikau last Sunday, went with Sundown Sav over 600m in 39.5.
A Vespa filly and a Cassius The Colt gelding, both trained by Mike Breslin, ended with 42 seconds even, and their stablemate Call A Friend clocked 42.1.
