McKhan sounded a warning at Awapuni on Tuesday morning that he is a fair contender for the $100,000 Interprovincial at New Plymouth on Saturday.
Fast work was held wide out on the new course proper, on the plough or on the synthetic track.
McKhan used the course proper and had apprentice jockey Toni Davies aboard when covering a smart 1000m in 1.2.6, the last 600 in 34.7.
McKhan was in great form a few months ago, but trainer Ashley Meadows decided to give the gelding a freshen up. He won a Foxton trial last week and has gone ahead in leaps and bounds.
No less impressive this morning were Textbook and maiden jumper Keepz Occurring, both trained by Lydia Pickford. They were paired over 1000m in 1.4.9, the last 600 in 35.6, in preparation for Woodville on Sunday
Ride The Tide had Charlotte's Way for a partner over 1000m in 1.6.4, the last 600 in 35.9, while Reign It In and Farravallo posted 1.3.5 and 36.2.
Last-start winners Kawatiri and My Alibi, both trained by Matthew Eales, matched strides over 1000m in 1.7.9, the last 600 in 36.6, and My Alibi is entered for the Interprovincial at New Plymouth as well.
Super Flash, who did extremely well to finish third over hurdles at TeAroha last start, ran 1000m in 1.8.2, the last 600 in 36.9, and he will race at Woodville on Sunday.
Talented filly Bona Sforza gathered speed from the 1000m to finish with 800m in 50.6, the last 600 in 36 seconds even. She won the Welcome Stakes at Riccarton last April in her only race-day start so far.
Sotirio and stablemate Durham Lad were paired over 800m in 51.8, the last 600 in 36.2, while promising filly Too Sweet and unraced Sweetest Thing recorded 52.2 and 36.8.
Intention, a Group 2-winning two-year-old from last season, had stablemate Call A Friend alongside over 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 36.4.
In a new campaign so far, Intention has had a win and a second at the Foxton trials, and both horses are expected to race at Taupo on Sunday.
Fourty Eight, likely to be seen over jumps again at Woodville, worked over a mile, being timed the final 1000m in 1.7.6, the last 600 in 37.3. Lady Performer came up with 1.8.9 and 37.5.
Veteran gallopers Make Time and Old Town Road, who are holding good form, gathered speed from the 1000m to finish with 800m in 52.1, the last 600 in 37.9.
Unraced three-year-old Donatello and a Per Incanto gelding, both trained by Ashley Meadows, ran 800m in 53.3, the last 600 in 37.2, and Donatello (by Reliable Man) has solid form at the trials and jump-outs.
On the plough, Casta Shadow ran 1000m in 1.10.2, the last 600 in 39 seconds even, while his stablemates Kentucky Boy and Super Spirit, both entered for the open steeple at Woodville, took 1.7.1 and 41.3.
On the synthetic track, Craftsman covered 800m in 54.9, the last 600 in 39.7, and his stablemate Pleasing posted 56.1 and 40.9.
