The majority of fast work was held wide out on the course proper amid frosty conditions. Fog prevented the timing of some gallops.

Coney Island and Ocean Melody used the course proper and were paired over 1000m in 1.5.1, with the final 800m taking 50.1, the last 600 in 35.7.

Coney Island steps up to the open grade at Wanganui (2060m) on Saturday, but drops significantly in weight from 57.5kg to 54kg, and deserves respect.

Ocean Melody, who is holding her form solidly, finished third at Wanganui last start in r75 grade under 54kg.

She reverts to r65 in the last race this Saturday, handicapped with 57kg, but apprentice jockey Hayley Hassman will claim 2kg down to 55kg.

Homeland (mdn mile) and Cremant (r75 1200m) went 1000m together in 1.8.2, coming the final 800m in 52.9, the last 600 in 37.6. Homeland will have blinkers added to the gear on Saturday.

Donnybrook (open 2060m) and Waikato entrant East End Lad (r65 1300m) matched strides over 800m in 51.6, the last 600 in 37.1, and their stablemate Kereti went alone in 51.9 and 37 seconds even.

Testing (r75 1200m), who goes well in a fresh state, gathered speed from the 1000m to finish with 800m in 52.2, the last 600 in 37.2. She won a Foxton trial last month.

Her stablemates Timex (r65 2060m) and Our Giulia went 1000m together in 1.8.3, with the final 800m taking 53.2, the last 600 in 38.4.

Sand Point, now trained by Lydia Pickford, covered 800m in 51.5, the last 600 in 38 seconds even, while last-start winner Sundown Sav (3yo 1360m) and Offertory (mdn mile) went together in 54.6 and 38.2.

Love Janie, who resumes in Saturday's open 1360m, had unraced three-year-old filly Eve Renee (by Wyndspelle) for a partner over 1000m in 1.8.7, ending with 800m in 54.4, the last 600 in 39.3.

Top jumper West Coast, in Saturday's Waikato Steeplechase, ran 1000m in 1.10.1, with the final 800m taking 54.3, the last 600 in 39 seconds even.

Wanganui acceptor Platinum Sixty Six (r65 mile), had Saturday's race jockey Jonathan Riddell aboard over 1000m in 1.10.4, the last 600 in 39.9, and Galeforce (mdn mile) clocked 1.11.5 and 40.6.

Tokyodome (r65 2060m) had trainer Deborah Parry in the saddle over 800m, the last 600 in 40.8, while Lalume and Wonderboy, galloping together, ended with 42.3. Ribella Rose (r65 2060m) went a quiet 1000m, the last 600 in 43.8.

On the plough, Cassius The Colt (by Alamosa) and a Vespa filly ran 800m in 53.1, the last 600 in 39.2, and they are trained by Mike Breslin.
