Fast work during another quiet session was held a few metres out from the rail on the course proper, with just one gallop recorded on the synthetic track. Fog prevented the timing of one or two workouts.

Ima Brazen One (open 1200m) used the course proper and had amateur rider Tylah Mercer aboard over 1000m in 53.8, the last 600 in 37.2.

The Brazen Beau mare, who worked in good fashion on Tuesday, won a sprint over 1000 metres at Trentham last October in the hands of Masa Hashizume. She will be ridden for the first time on Saturday by Erin Leighton.

Time honours this morning went to John Doe, who covered 1000m in 1.8.4, with the final 800m taking 52.1, the last 600 in 36.6.

Top jumper West Coast really caught the eye with his 1000m in 1.7.8, coming the final 800m in 53.2, the last 600 in 37.7. He has thrived since his last-start victory in the Waikato Hunt Cup.

His stablemate Sweettest, who debuts over hurdles on Saturday, ran 1000m in 1.11.1, the last 600 in 37.2, and will be ridden by Bella Oliver with a 3kg claim.

Last-start maiden winner Sundown Sav and stablemate Offertory were timed 800m in 53.9, the last 600 in 37.4, and Testing went alone in 54.5 and 38 seconds even.

Wellington acceptors Kosta and stablemate Call A Friend, both in the r75 1400m on Saturday, ran 800m in 55.5, the last 600 in 38.3.

Kosta, who will have blinkers back on this Saturday, was a winner at Trentham (1000m) last October.

Pinkerton, in a maiden hurdle at Trentham, gathered speed from the 1000m to finish with 800m in 55.9, the last 600 in 39.3. He could give plenty of cheek on Saturday.

Sotirio (open 1200m) was another to work alone, covering 800m in 58.5, the last 600 in 40.2. He won two sprint races at Trentham last year, both on heavy ground, one of which was fresh up.

His stablemate Sapphire, who debuts in the maiden 1200m, ended an easy 800m with 600 in 42.6. She finished second in a Hastings trial at the end of April.

Super Flash (Manawatu Steeples) ran 1000m in 1.15.9, the last 600 in 42.5, and he will be looking to go one better after placing second in an open steeplechase at Whanganui last month.

Alonotas (2yo 1000m) and Amalthea (mdn 1200m), both trained by the Gray partnership, were paired over 800m, the last 600 in 42.3.

Identikit, resuming in the open 1500m, was not chasing the clock over 1000m in 1.13.5, with the final 800m taking 56.7, the last 600 in 43.8. She could run well.

Caliber (2yo 1000m) and stablemate Sevenayes (open 1500m) went a quiet 800m together, the last 600 in 44.1, while My Alibi (r75 1400m) ended with 44.6.

On the synthetic track, a gelding by Cassius The Colt and a Vespa filly, both trained by Mike Breslin, ran 800m in 52.2, the last 600 in 37.8.
