Top mare Town Cryer and her two-year-old stablemate In The Air drew plenty of attention at Awapuni on Thursday morning.

Fast work was held on the synthetic track or on the plough (good).

Town Cryer and In The Air used the synthetic track and, though not fully extended, they were galloping well within themselves under good holds.

The pair were timed 1000m in 1.9.8, the last 600 in 39.2, and it augured well for their up-coming races on Karaka Million day at Ellerslie on Saturday.

Town Cryer tackles the $600,000 Westbury Classic (1400m) with top Melbourne jockey Craig Williams in the saddle. The mare goes into the Group 2 after a very close third in the Group 1 Thorndon Mile (1600m) at Trentham two weeks ago.

In The Air (by Embellish) won fresh up at Tauherenikau over New Year, but is an outsider to win the Karaka Million 2YO from a wide gate. On Thursday morning, he was still without a rider.

Time honours on the synthetic track this morning went to their stablemate Asahi, who breezed over 1000m in 1.4.3, the last 600 in 38.2. He is not engaged this week.

Wanganui entrant Ima Brazen One, who is in the open 1200m on Saturday, was timed 800m in 54.2, the last 600 in 40.1.

She could lead them a merry chase on Saturday, with blinkers going on for the first time. Apprentice jockey Amber Riddell takes the mount and is claiming 3kg down to 51kg.

Smart two-year-old filly Intention and unraced three-year-old stablemate Afterthought (by So You Think), both owned by In To Win syndicates, were sent 800m in 55.6, the last 600 in 40.6.

Intention, narrowly beaten in the Wellesley Stakes at Trentham two weeks ago, is likely to head to the Matamata Breeders' Stakes on March 15.

French Doll and unraced two-year-old stablemate Popinjay (by Rock 'n' Pop) sprinted 600m in 43.3, and Sand Point was kept to 46.7.

On the plough, Rogue Romance and Port Chalmer, both trained by Lisa Latta, matched strides over 1000m in 1.5.1, the last 600 in 37.4.

Unraced three-year-old Starpello (by Star Turn) and a Verdi gelding, two more trained by Lisa Latta, did nice work over 1000m in 1.6.8, the last 600 in 38.6.

Starpello worked well last Thursday as well and has put a fourth at the Foxton trials and a win at the Levin jump-outs under the belt already.

Thirsty and Broonzy were partners over 800m in 56.1, the last 600 in 39.9, and their stablemate Pleasing ended with 39.1.

Platinum Tyche and Ocean Melody covered 800m in 54.9, the last 600 in 40.5, while a Complacent gelding trained by Stephen Mercer went 1000m in 1.10.9, the last 600 in 40.3.

Goddess, who worked in great fashion on Tuesday, did not chase the clock this morning over 1000m in 1.11.2 and 40.9.

She deserves respect at Wanganui on Saturday (r65 2040m), but her task has been made difficult from the outside gate in a 14-horse field. Taranaki apprentice Elle Sole will claim 3kg down to 54kg.

Kosta (by War Decree), who debuts in the maiden 3yo 1200m, ran 800m in 56.7, the last 600 in 41 seconds even. He won at the Levin jump-outs (800m) a fortnight ago and should go well fresh up.
