Members of Lisa Latta's team were in full flight at Awapuni on Tuesday morning, recording some smart times.
The majority of fast work was on the plough during a quiet gallop session, with 50-60 Awapuni-trained horses heading to the Foxton trials later in the day.
Time honours went to Egmont entries Sacred Pearl and Benefactor, who went together over 1000m in 1.2.7, covering the final 800m in 48.8, the last 600 in 35.7.
Sacred Pearl continues to be one of the more honest horses in training at Awapuni, particularly on wet tracks. Benefactor resumed from a short break a few weeks ago, and looks a big improver if he runs on Saturday.
Last-start maiden winner Deadly Pony and Lincoln Towers were paired over 1000m in 1.2.2 and came the final 800m in 49.1, the last 600 in 36.3. They have more to offer on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Connello and Platinum Designs matched strides over 1000m in 1.3.1, taking 49.8 for the final 800m, the last 600 in 36.7, while Lantern Way and Lincoln Grace posted 1.3.7 and 49.9, the last 600 in 36.6.
A Satono Aladdin colt and a Hello Youmzain gelding, two-year-olds in the Latta barn, went 800m, the last 600 in 40.3.
Donnybrook was kept to 1000m in 1.13.8, the last 600 in 41.3, while Showbastian Coe and French Doll did 800m in a very quiet 58.7 and 43.1.
On the synthetic track, Sotirio breezed over 800m in 52.3, the last 600 in 37.9, and his stablemate Durham Lad was kept to 55.9 and 40.1 over the same distance.
