The majority of fast work was held five or six metres out from the rail on the firm course proper, and times were smart.

Platinum Attack and Platinum Diamond used the course proper and sped over 1000m in 1.2.5, with the final 800m taking 48 seconds even, the last 600 in 35.1.

Platinum Attack has not raced since finishing seventh in the Group 1 Proisir Plate (1400m) at Ellerslie four weeks ago.

His stablemates Belzoni and Coulthard were paired over 1000m in 1.4.6, coming the final 800m in 49.7, the last 600 in 35.5. Both horses will be back in winning form very soon.

Altezza and Only The Lonely, both trained by Bryce Newman, went 1000m together in 1.4.8 and completed the final 800m in 49.8, the last 600 in 35.4. They have not raced since the autumn.

Their stablemates Street Appeal and unraced four-year-old McBlue (by Tivaci) covered 1000m in 1.5.5 and finished with 800m in 49.4, the last 600 in 35.7.

The Explosive and maiden filly Kirinka matched strides over 1000m in 1.10.1, gathering speed as they went to clock 52.6 for the final 800m, the last 600 in 35.9.

The Explosive has not raced since finishing unplaced in the Warstep Stakes (2000m) at Riccarton in late April.

Saturday's Egmont runners Too Sweet and Turn It Up, possible rivals in the r65 1200m, were locked together over 800m in 49.6, the last 600 in 35.7.

Turn It Up, who will have blinkers added to her gear on Saturday, was second on the ballot when acceptances were taken on Wednesday. Lisa Allpress has been engaged to ride the mare.

Midnight Dart and unraced four-year-old Belgard (by Time Test) ran 1000m in 1.5.6, with the final 800m taking 50.8, the last 600 in 36.6. Belgard has solid form at the jump-outs and the trials.

Egmont Cup runner Manzor Blue worked alone over 1000m in 1.6.6 and 51.9, the last 600 in 36.9, while Crouch and Sevenayes recorded 1.9.6 and 52.4, the last 600 in 36.5.

Coney Island, a strong lightweight chance in the Egmont Cup with Wiremu Pinn in the saddle, and unraced stablemate Roco Kate (by El Roca) did 1000m in 1.6.2, the last 600 in 36.7. Roco Kate debuts in Saturday's maiden mile.
