Gray-trained trio sounds warning
The Kevin and Stephen Gray-trained trio of Dazz, Tears Of Victory and Idyllic all worked impressively in solo gallops at Awapuni on Thursday morning.

Fast work was held a few metres out from the rail on the course proper, which provided excellent conditions.

Dazz had senior rider Rohan Mudhoo in the saddle over 1000m in 1.5.2, with the final 800m taking 50.2, the last 600 in 35.4. The four-year-old was a costly failure at Trentham last start, but did have his excuses.

Tears Of Victory had Mudhoo aboard when running a similar assignment, covering 1000m in 1.6.9 and coming the final 800m in 50.4, the last 600 in 35.5.

Idyllic (Bruno Queiroz) ran 1000m in 1.6.1, clocking 50.6 for the final 800m, the last 600 in 35.8, and it would pay to forget her unlucky run at Otaki last start.

Merrilegs, in at Waipukurau on Sunday (r65 1400m), and unraced two-year-old Summer Flyer (by Noverre) were timed 800m in 51.4, the last 600 in 35.4, and Amiria posted 51.6 and 35.5.

Altezza (r60 2100m) and unraced two-year-old McBlue (by Tivaci) ran 1000m in 1.6.1, with the final 800m taking 51.1, the last 600 in 36.1.

Altezza is holding her form much better, while McBlue, who finished third in a Foxton trial last week, could debut at Woodville next Wednesday.

Bold Belle, who covered a lot of extra ground from a wide draw last start, ran 1000m in 1.8.1 and 800m in 49.4, the last 600 in 36.1.

Danjuro, in Sunday's r75 mile, had maiden four-year-old Offertory for a partner over 800m in 54.9, the last 600 in 36.5. Offertory ran third in a Foxton trial last week.

Connello had Keeping Time alongside over 1000m, being timed from the 800m in 49.5, the last 600 in 36.7.

Former northerner Kakadu, now with Lisa Latta, ran 1000m in 1.6.1, coming the final 800m in 52.1, the last 600 in 37.4. He finished a close second at the trials last week.

Daiwa Explorer and Our Akashinga were paired over similar work, clocking 1.6.2 for 1000m and 51.7 for the final 800m, the last 600 in 37.5.

Sax Appeal and unraced two-year-old Kirinka (by Staphanos), who finished second at the trials last week, were timed 1000m in 1.7.3, the last 600 in 37.1.

Punisher and unraced three-year-old Tsarista (by Tarzino) were always a few lengths in front of Timex over 1000m in 1.7.6, the last 600 in 37.4. Brutiful Lass and stablemate Brian covered 800m in 54.1 and 37.9.

Waipukurau entrants Only The Lonely (r65 1400m) and Street Appeal (mdn 1400m) ended with 600m in 37.4.

Only The Lonely will wear blinkers on Sunday, replacing side winkers, and Street Appeal, who won a Foxton trial last week, has just the side winkers removed.

Unraced two-year-old Wulfruna (by Wootton Bassett) and unraced three-year-old Zetel (by Telperion) sprinted 600m in 38.9, and they are trained by the Gray partnership.

Waipukurau entrants Portrush (R2) and double acceptor Oklahoma ran 1000m in 1.9.7, the last 600 in 39.7, and Hard Too Think went alone in 1.10.6 and 39.1.

High Rock and unraced two-year-old stablemate Aim To Miss (by Derryn) sprinted 600m in 40.2, and Platinum Diamond, an acceptor at Te Rapa (3yo 1600m), was kept to a quiet 800m, the last 600 in 40.7.
