Sweet Ada and Opawa Scarlett are on song for major honours on Sunday, judging by their gallop together at Awapuni on Thursday morning.
Fast work was held on the plough or on the synthetic track.
Sweet Ada and Opawa Scarlett used the plough and were timed 1000m in 1.7.5, coming the final 800m in 52.4, the last 600 in 38.1.
Sweet Ada (mdn hwt 2100m) is running better races this campaign and goes to Woodville with two fourths and a last-start third under the belt. The mare will be ridden by her co-trainer Shaun Fannin.
Opawa Scarlett (r75 hwt 1600m), who will wear blinkers instead of side winkers, deserves respect, but will be ridden by Hamish McNeill, who can claim one kilo. The mare's co-trainer Shaun Fannin will ride stablemate Flying Celebration.
Time honours on the plough this morning went to Lisa Latta-trained Perfect Test, who reeled off a smart 1000m in 1.5.3, with the final 800m taking 50.1, the last 600 in 36.4. The Time Test mare, who has won three from 15, has not raced for almost 11 months.
Castletown Stakes winner Platinum Diamond and Sacred Pearl covered 1000m in 1.7.1 and finished with 800m in 52.6, the last 600 in 38.7.
Ribella Rose, in the 2yo 1200m at Hawera on Saturday, worked alone over 800m in 55.5, the last 600 in 39.3. She has not raced since January, but did win a maiden two-year-old jump-out (850m) at Levin last month.
Unraced two-year-old Amiria (by Per Incanto), a half-sister to Kereti, and unraced three-year-old Al Passo (by Alamosa), a half-brother to Sevenayes, ran 800m in 56.1, the last 600 in 41.1. These two are with Mike Breslin.
On the synthetic track, unraced two-year-old fillies Holy Heka (by Invader), May Wirth (by Circus Maximus) and Assist (by Contributer) all went together over 800m in 53.4, the last 600 in 38.8. They are with Peter Didham.
Pleasing, holding her form solidly, was kept to 800m in 54.1, the last 600 in 39.4, and Sotirio, in the r75 1400m on Saturday, was not chasing the clock either in 54.5 and 40.1.
Smokin Mo (r65 2100m) had trainer Ashley Meadows aboard over a quiet round before running an easy 800m in 56.6, the last 600 in 41.3.
Wonderboy (mdn 1200m) was given an easy 800m in 58.4 and 43.1, while stablemate Reign It In did little more than three-quarter pace, ending with 44.8.
