Lower grade mares Identikit and Love Janie worked in bold fashion at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.
Fast work was held on the plough or the synthetic track, with the majority of horses that were timed heading to Trentham on Saturday or Hawera on Sunday.
Identikit and Love Janie, both in at Hawera, used the plough and were paired over 1000m in 1.5.6, with the final 800m taking 51.7, the last 600 in 37.3.
Identikit disappointed fresh up, but was working well before that race, and has done so since. She can make amends on Sunday, and Love Janie is knocking on the door as well.
Fourty Eight and stablemate Sweet Ada, two more for the Egmont meeting, did similar work, covering 1000m in 1.5.9, with the sectionals taking 52 seconds even and 37.7. Sweet Ada (by Adelaide) has not raced since the spring, but has been building nicely.
Rangitikei Cup entrant He's A Doozy and First Edition (r65 mile) were locked together over 1000m in 1.6 even, finishing with 800m in 51.8, the last 600 in 38.1, and their stablemate Belardo Boy (Rangitikei Cup) went alone with almost identical times of 1.6.3 and 51.7, the last 600 in 38.8.
Shockiff was timed a useful 1000m in 1.7, coming the final 800m in 51.9, the last 600 in 38.4, and Redana posted 1.7.1 and 52.2, the last 600 in 38.7.
Flying Celebration and maiden stablemate Navy Bride (by U S Navy Flag), both in the Fannin stable, went 1000m in 1.7.5 and completed the final 800m in 53.3, the last 600 in 38.5. They have not been seen on race day since the spring.
Lincoln Star and Coney Island were at a solid clip early over 1000m in 1.6.5, but eased to finish with 800m in 53.2, the last 600 in 39 even. Their stablemate Deadly Pony did 800m in 54.4 and 39.5.
Share Power, trained by Deborah Parry, and Donatello (Ashley Meadows) were timed 1000m in 1.13.2, the last 600 in 40.3, while a Wrote filly in the Meadows barn, went alone in 1.13.3 and 40.7.
Wal and Victortheinflictor were not chasing the clock over 1000m in 1.15.2, the last 600 in 42.3, while Platinum Pantheon (by Hanseatic) and unraced Jedify (by Justify), two-year-olds with Lisa Latta, ended with a quiet 43.7.
On the synthetic track, smart four-year-old Farravallo continued his good progress with 800m in 49.2, the last 600 in 35.2, and has not raced since last October.
Poppy's Girl had co-trainer Hazel Fannin aboard over an eye-catching 1000m in 1.3.1, with the final 800m taking 48.4, the last 600 in 35.8.
She has not raced since November and is likely to resume at the synthetic meeting at Awapuni on Sunday week.
Omega Boy covered 1000m in an even 1.9.8 and 53.6, the last 600 in 40.3, while Scandalize and Kawatiri went 800m in 54.1, the last 600 in 41 even.
