Get Funky and his maiden stablemate Port Chalmer stole the show at Awapuni on Tuesday morning.
The majority of fast work was on the plough (good), with just two gallops recorded on the synthetic track.
Get Funky and Port Chalmer used the plough and ran 1000m in 1.4.9, coming the final 800m in 50.6, the last 600 in 37.8.
Get Funky has won two from 15, but his last win was in spring last year, and Port Chalmer was unplaced on debut at Wanganui last month. Both horses could be big improvers for the Levin meeting on Thursday.
Manawatu Saturday entrant Omega Boy (r65 1400m) was sent 800m in 51.5, the last 600 in 37.3, while four-year-old mare Chelsea Rose (by Sweynesse) and unraced three-year-old filly Rithim (by Time Test) took 51.5 and 37.6. They are with Lisa Latta.
Chelsea Rose finished second at the Woodville trials two weeks ago, and both horses run on Thursday.
Inmyshadow had trainer Ashley Meadows aboard over 1000m in 1.6.2, covering the final 800m in 51.9, the last 600 in 38 seconds even. Thursday acceptor Knickerless (r65 mile) and likely Manawatu runner Unscripted (r75 mile) followed soon after with 1.8.2 and 53.2, the last 600 in 38.9.
Jack Morrison was timed 1000m in 1.9.9, the last 600 in 39.7, while The Scunner, trained by Ashley Meadows, and Share Power (Deborah Parry) recorded 1.11 and 40.5. Share Power is an acceptor on Thursday (r60 1300m).
Pinkerton was not chasing the clock over 1000m in 1.12, the last 600 in 40.6, and neither were Manawatu entrants Pepeha (r75 1200m) and promising two-year-old filly Intention (by Bivouac), who went together in 1.10.9 and 41.7. Intention is down to run in the Wakefield Stakes.
Otaki runner Hemi Ridapest (r60 1300m) worked alone over 800m in 55.9, the last 600 in 41.1, while Manawatu Cup runners Crouch and Donnybrook clocked 57.3 and 42 seconds even. Grahams Pride (Otaki mdn mile) posted 58.5 and 43.3.
Kattegat, in at Otaki as well (r75 2100m), had co-trainer Shaun Fannin in the saddle over 1000m, being timed the final 800m in 58.9, the last 600 43.6. and stablemate Linara (mdn 1400m) was kept to little more than three-quarter pace, the last 600 in 45.8.
On the synthetic track, Lemaitre and Princess Seneca sped over 800m in 50.7, the last 600 in 35.9, while their stablemates Kana and War Princess, both in at Manawatu, went quick early, finishing with 49.5 and 36.9.
